The Surin Islands offer by far the best snorkeling reefs in Thailand. Due to their remote location, the Surins are not as crowded as the very popular Similans. If you are looking for reefs and good snorkeling – this is definitely the tour to do!

The reefs are healthy, sheltered and offer snorkel fun for every age.

Highlights

Mangrove Tour

Speedboat in Mangroves

The first part of the boat journey takes you through the mainland mangroves behind the island of Koh Kho Khao. Protected from waves this is not only the most comfortable speedboat route in our area – the landscape you will see is spectacular, nearly unpopulated and rarely visited. This part of the journey takes you also way back into Thailands history, so we will give you in depth information about this interesting area as we go along the way.

Snorkeling

snorkeling at surin

The three snorkeling stops are the main attraction of this tour, so we do our best to choose the reefs with the best conditions on a daily basis. We also want to give you enough time for snorkeling, so every day is planned a bit differently according to the tides – we want to give you at least one snorkeling stop without a strict time limit. The shallow reefs consist mainly of hard corals – you will find big clams, sea stars colorful reef fish, like the famous Nemo Clownfish. We regularly encounter – absolute harmless but beautiful – reef sharks, Barracudas, sea snakes, Octopuss asnd if you are lucky sea turtles.

Hotel Transfer

The tourprice includes all hotel transfers for hotels in the Khao Lak area – as is standard with all tours in Khao Lak by the way. It is possible to join our tours from other destinations like Krabi, Phuket, Khao Sok or Thai Muang. But a surcharge for your private taxi will be neccessary and the pickup time will be quite early in the morning at your hotel.

Pickup on Tour Day

Your exact pickup time depends on your hotel and it’s location along the pickup line. This is one of the reasons we need to know about your hotel as soon as possible to arrange your seemless pickup and tell you your exact times.

Food and Drinks

soft drinks in ice box

In the morning, you will find coffee, cookies, snacks and fruits at the pier before the briefing. Throughout the day there are various softdrinks available at any time. The tourprice includes a full Thai style buffet lunch – in both, the Surin and Similan National park, lunch is served by the National Parks own kitchen, so we only have limited influence about the dishes and quality of the buffet.

Snorkel Equipment

Snorkels and Masks

The tour includes a full set of new snorkel equipment in excellent state. If you have your own equipment, you are welcome to bring it – from experience we would recommend, that you only bring your own mask and snorkel and leave your fins at your hotel. The fins are the bulkiest part of the equipment and often gets stressed quite a lot during the day. Furthermore you will get a live-vest for the day – apart from safety, live-vests are very useful on snorkeling trips for a number of other reasons, we will tell you in the briefings.

Weather & Sea Conditions

Between November and January – especially around Christmas and New Years – steady northerly winds regularly create short bumpy waves, which can make parts of the boat rides uncomfortable. Although this does not affect the safety of the boat rides, we can not guarantee enjoyable boat rides to every individual on every given day. We experienced a wide range of individual guest reactions to these conditions. As the Koh Kam tour does not require the speedboat to leave sheltered waters at any time, this does apply to all tours except Koh Kam and eventual Prathong tours.

From February on weather and sea conditions are usually very calm and comfortable.

Medical Advice

Individuals with the following medical conditions are excluded from this speedboat tour:

  • Back Issues
  • Heart Issues & Diseases
  • Pregnancy

Please be advised that this is a safety regulation by the Thai Department for National Parks and there is no insurance cover for individuals with these conditions whatsoever on speedboat tours!

How Bookings Work

To enquire or book, the best way is to just use this contact form here. Next to your name, nationality and amount of guests, we need the name of your hotel – and your room number once you checked in. During your stay in Khao Lak your hotel and room nr is like an ID for every operator and driver through which we can easily identify you and get in touch with you. Hint: if you have booked your tour well in advance and don’t know your room nr until check-in – just show your E-Voucher to your hotel staff after check-in and ask them to inform us about your current room number for our pickup roster.

The final confirmation of your booking via email will mention “Confirmation: date, destination, amount of guests” in the subject of our confirmation email, as well as include an E-Voucher PDF attached. If you have a mobilke device, you don’t need to print this E-Voucher, just show it to the driver and to us at the pier on your phone.

Payment

If your tour date is later than one week from the date of confirmation, we definitely need a 30% deposit via paypal, cash or wire transfer. (We are currently working on online credit card payment system). If you are lucky enough to get a space on a tour within the next five days, you can often pay the full amount on departure day in cash at the pier. Any balance payment is also to be made at the pier before departure.

Cancellation Policy

Until 24h before tour departure you can cancel your tour anytime via email or phone call. If you don’t have any means of communication, just show the E-Voucher to your hotel reception and ask them to cancel the tour for you.

Cancellations within 24hours of tour departure require a 50% payment of the tour price!
